Cardiff to Host Prestigious 2024 IALC Workshop, Aiming to Elevate Wales on the Global Stage

The International Association of Language Centres (IALC) is proud to announce the upcoming prestigious IALC Workshop, set to take place in Cardiff from the 11th to the 14th of April 2024. This flagship event in the international study travel industry is expected to attract around 135 study travel agents from 33 countries and 130 representatives from IALC-accredited schools in 24 countries, setting the stage for a significant international gathering.

For over four decades, IALC has been at the forefront of independent language centre accreditation, fostering a dynamic community committed to delivering high-quality learning experiences worldwide. The IALC Workshop is acclaimed as one of the most illustrious international B2B tradeshows in the language travel industry.

This year's workshop is hosted by Celtic English Academy, the only IALC language school in Wales, located in the historic and vibrant capital city. The event will unfold over four days at The Parkgate Hotel, with a broad agenda including two full days of B2B meetings, seminars, and three spectacular evening events: a Welcome Reception at Cardiff Castle, the 20th Anniversary Celebration of Celtic English Academy, and a Gala Dinner at the National Museum Cardiff.

The workshop will offer delegates an immersive experience of Welsh culture, from its cuisine and beverages – proudly presenting local Welsh beers, cheeses, and Penderyn whisky - to musical and dance performances by Wynne Evans, the Cory Band, Pendyrus Male Voice Choir, Only Boys Aloud, and the Nantygarw Dancers.

Shoko Doherty, the CEO of Celtic English Academy, a Welsh Government's Export Exemplar, and a UK Government Export Champion, emphasises the broader impact of the event: "Hosting this significant event is a strategic move to elevate the profile of Wales globally, driving international demand. We are committed to supporting the Welsh government in its goal to welcome over one million international visitors annually, putting Wales firmly on the global map. This event is poised to catalyse substantial economic growth through international trade and the inbound visitor economy, marking a significant milestone for our nation."

It is estimated this event will contribute approximately £13 million in inbound economic value to the Welsh economy by 2027, which includes a £2 million direct economic contribution to local households in Cardiff and the Vale area through placing international students with local homestay providers.

Event Wales and the VisitWales Travel Trade team are supporting the event to enhance the delegate experience and including familiarisation visits in Wales, aiming to deepen product knowledge and foster future engagements.

A highlight of the conference will be the "Song of Wales," a newly commissioned piece written by Philip Harper set for its world premiere at the IALC 2024 Gala Night. This iconic piece, symbolising Welsh music and spirit, and celebrating the ethos of the Wellbeing of Future Generations Act, will feature performances by the Cory Band, Pendyrus Male Voice Choir, and narration by Wynne Evans, accompanied by poetry from the internationally renowned Welsh creative writer, Menna Elfyn.

Shoko's passion for inviting the global community to Wales is evident: "It is our honour to host the IALC 2024 workshop in Cardiff. My team and I are looking forward to extending a warm Welsh welcome, showcasing the very best of Cardiff and Wales, and fostering international relations. We invite you to discover the fantastic yet last hidden gem of the UK - Wales!"

Testimonials from past workshops underscore the value of the IALC event in the language travel industry, noting its significant role in fostering business growth, networking, and cultural exchange.
